"Huitzilopochtli was the inspiration for this work. I have an impression of Arizona that reflects the qualities of this Mexica God. The sun, powerful and hot, is a star that exists in this universe. And war, the theme that hits me the hardest, and that reflects the war on human beings in this borderland, in this state, and this country. The history of the land of Arizona reflects the trauma inflicted on the land and its people. The story is complex, and at the same time, it is part of a system created by a society that was and still is obsessed with conquering the land.
This new work represents my interpretation, impression, and understanding about the connection between Huitzilopothcli, the Mexica sun god of War and sacrifice, and between the state of Arizona in the United States."
